Purple Caterpillar

I found this strange caterpillar when we were at Shawnee State Forest in southern Ohio this past weekend. I had never seen a purple caterpillar before and had no idea what it was. I looked it up when we got home and found that it seems to be a White-blotched Heterocampa. Apparently they turn purple/pink right before pupating. I learned something new!

Alien Encounter

A couple days ago I was surprised by this little guy (or lady?). I was taking pictures when Hubby came home for lunch and said "Get the shotgun" lol. Its so funny that such a big guy (he's 6'3") gets so freaked out by a praying mantis!

Fair Fun

We had a nice time at the fair last week. It was Matthew's first time there. He pretty much slept the whole time =).  Jimmy was in for a special treat, this year they had a little circus "show." There were elephants and camels, ponies and dogs that did tricks. Jimmy could have even touched an elephant, but he was a little unsure. So he just watched. They performed a few neat tricks including this one and one where they stood on their front legs (I wasn't quick enough with the camera for that trick). They even laid down together!

After the circus, Jimmy got to ride a pony. But wait you say, don't you guys have horses?? Well, yes, but they are a little big for Jimmy and he gets a bit worried around them. Not to mention they haven't been ridden in a while. We really need to get a little pony or small horse for Jimmy to be able to ride. He would have a ball! He really enjoyed riding the pony at the fair, he even waved at everyone and he kept patting the pony's neck.  It was so cute!

We didn't stay too long since we had Matthew and it got to be past Jimmy's bedtime real quick, but it was long enough to eat some greasy food, see some farm animals, have some fun and get some homemade ice cream on the way out. Maybe next year Matthew will get to ride a pony too!

Camera Critters - Is it Halloween?

I always see these neat orange and black bugs on our milkweed. Come to find out they are actually called "Milkweed Bugs" lol! They make me think of Halloween, but I am not ready for summer to be over yet!

So Graceful

Here are some photos I took the other day when we were at a local park. I felt like I was cheating taking these pics because the swans were so tame and let me so close!

PS - My poster print giveaway ends tomorrow night (5/23) Check it out by clicking the link in my sidebar!

Our Garden Friend

Our resident toad (well, one of them, hopefully there are more!). He is so cute! I have always loved toads, ever since I was a little girl. I was probably one of the only kids in our neighborhood who wasn't afraid to touch them. Everyone thought they would get warts or something, but not me! I'm not afraid of a little toad pee lol! And believe me, I have been peed on by many a toad. Gross I know, but its really not that bad and its called soap and water afterwards!! ;-) So here is our little bug eating buddy, I even showed him to Jimmy, but he isn't allowed to pick him up yet. Not till he is a bit older and knows not to {{SQUEEZE!}}.

#66 - Sunny Day

These are from yesterday when I took Jimmy to visit his Grandma. It was such a beautiful day, ahh it was wonderful! Today was even better, but we were out most of the day and I didn't get any pics till around dusk when I saw this guy.

This is my favorite boy, Cajun. He is a Tennessee Walking horse, and he is such a cutie! Love him!

And below is a pic of our horse Gunner, he started coming down to see me, but then wouldn't get any closer. Silly boy. You can also see Sherlock up in the barn, he is a Peruvian Paso from what we have been told. He came from the same farm as Mimzy, the palomino Quarter horse we have at our place while Gunner is at Dad & Kathy's being taught manners by Cajun lol.
