The Ducklings have Arrived!

Meet our new babies! They are so adorable. Just 2 days old and cute as can be. They all arrived safely this morning and have settled in very well. We ordered 1 black Swedish male, 2 blue Swedish females, 1 male and 2 female Welsh Harlequins, 1 chocolate Indian Runner female, 2 fawn and white Runner females, and 1 fawn and white Runner male. Please enjoy the following cuteness overload:

You can expect more pics in the weeks to come as we follow their growth. I will probably post on my facebook page more, so make sure you check it out! Link in the sidebar. Thanks!

Spring has Sprung!

Lots of new happenings on the farm this week.

Our new ducklings are on their way today! They should arrive by Wednesday. I ordered Indian runner ducks, blue and black Swedish, and Welsh Harlequins. The ducks we had last year were Swedish ducks and they were so much fun. Sadly, they all turned out to be males and since we want egg layers, we decided to use them for the dinner table. They were very tasty, but it was hard to think of eating our little buddies at first. Ahh farm life! The ones I ordered this year are females (I did get a couple males) so we will hopefully be getting some eggs this fall or next spring.

Over the weekend, I went and bought a top bar beehive from a friend of mine, so we are that much closer to getting started on our journey with beekeeping. I have been wanting to get bees for the last 4 or 5 years and have been wanting to try a top bar hive so I am super excited! We may wait until next year to actually get the bees since it is a little late in the season, but we will see. We have a friend that keeps bees so if he needs to split a hive, we may be able to buy some bees from him.

Things are starting to pop up in the gardens and I spotted my first asparagus spears yesterday. Yummy!! The rhubarb looks nice and there are lots of spring flowers starting to bud and bloom. I have a lilac bush that is just covered with buds! Oh I can just smell them now!

Find Me Friday - 4/10

I debated whether or not to post this since the LAST time I did Find Me Friday was a year ago and it was the same subject.... pheasants! But then I thought, hey, a year ago was my first official pheasant sighting of the year and this is the exact same time! So its a good log to keep of pheasant sighting dates. ;-) Not the greatest pics, but I sure love these birds. They are so beautiful!

Find Me Friday!!

And we are back! Happy spring everyone, we are off to a great start here at the farm. A couple days ago we had 2 visitors, adult male pheasants! See if you can find them in this week's Find Me Friday photo.

They are on either side of the fence post right in the middle. I just happened to look out the window one morning and saw their bright golden feathers shining in the morning sunlight. This photo is from my phone, but I wish I had an awesome DSLR with a mega zoom, I could get some great pics! ;-)

If you are new this week, all you have to do is post a photo of whatever you want (within reason of course, keep it clean people! ;-) ) and it has to have some element of "peekaboo," "hiding" or "camouflage" in it. Think of one of those hidden pictures where you have to find the hidden images. Or a green frog blending into the green leaf he is sitting on. There are tons of options! Have fun with it!

If you would like to join in, please make sure to link back to my blog and use my button if you like. If I decide your image(s) is/are inappropriate, I have the right to delete your link. Other than that, have fun and I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! Oh, and I plan on having weekly themes in the future, but if you don't have a photo that falls into the category, you can still participate. And I don't mind if you add this into another Friday blog carnival. As long as you remember to link to me, that is great! Ok, that's all for now, lets see those photos!

Find Me Friday - 9/10

Check out this little guy's camouflage. I found him (her?) on a wooden post when we were at Shawnee State Forest in southern Ohio last weekend. I think it is a type of Fence Lizard, but it looks a bit different than the pics I have found....I did read somewhere that females of certain species can get a red spot before they lay eggs so maybe that's what is going on here? If anyone knows, please inform me! Thanks =)

Purple Caterpillar

I found this strange caterpillar when we were at Shawnee State Forest in southern Ohio this past weekend. I had never seen a purple caterpillar before and had no idea what it was. I looked it up when we got home and found that it seems to be a White-blotched Heterocampa. Apparently they turn purple/pink right before pupating. I learned something new!

Find Me Friday - 9/3

I have posted a photo similar to this before, but I just couldn't resist posting this one for Find Me Friday. I love how the toad on the Toad House is peeking through the flowers.

Alien Encounter

A couple days ago I was surprised by this little guy (or lady?). I was taking pictures when Hubby came home for lunch and said "Get the shotgun" lol. Its so funny that such a big guy (he's 6'3") gets so freaked out by a praying mantis!

I love the photo I snapped for this week, it reminds me of the ones I took of Duke when I first started this meme last year. This is Luke peeking through flowers in my flower bed.

Looking at the Sky on Friday - August Sunrise

I was up early enough this morning to see the sunrise so I took advantage of the situation.  Please excuse the power line =) We are surrounded by corn fields this year and it is so neat to see the mist over them, though you can only see it a little in this photo.

Don't forget to enter my contest (on my other blog) to win a $30 csnstores.com coupon!! It ends this Saturday @9 pm est! Click here!!

Find Me Friday - 8/20

I was taking some pics of Matthew the other day and I noticed someone else was trying to sneak his way into the pics. Can you find Jimmy? He is so silly! (And please excuse my horrible photography lighting skills lol!).

Fair Fun

We had a nice time at the fair last week. It was Matthew's first time there. He pretty much slept the whole time =).  Jimmy was in for a special treat, this year they had a little circus "show." There were elephants and camels, ponies and dogs that did tricks. Jimmy could have even touched an elephant, but he was a little unsure. So he just watched. They performed a few neat tricks including this one and one where they stood on their front legs (I wasn't quick enough with the camera for that trick). They even laid down together!

After the circus, Jimmy got to ride a pony. But wait you say, don't you guys have horses?? Well, yes, but they are a little big for Jimmy and he gets a bit worried around them. Not to mention they haven't been ridden in a while. We really need to get a little pony or small horse for Jimmy to be able to ride. He would have a ball! He really enjoyed riding the pony at the fair, he even waved at everyone and he kept patting the pony's neck.  It was so cute!

We didn't stay too long since we had Matthew and it got to be past Jimmy's bedtime real quick, but it was long enough to eat some greasy food, see some farm animals, have some fun and get some homemade ice cream on the way out. Maybe next year Matthew will get to ride a pony too!

Find Me Friday - 8/13

I found this pretty little green moth, called a Wavy-lined Emerald, on my morning glory leaves. I just love how the lines on its wings "blend" with the veins on the leaves its sitting on. Pretty good camouflage =)

Outdoor Wednesday - This Morning

Here are some photos I took this morning, right around our front porch.

A Petunia - it is a trooper! Surviving all this heat and my neglect, poor thing hasn't been watered except for if it has rained (which it has the last 2 days thankfully!)

A neat mushroom on the side of the porch

And last but not least, my favorite right now (I just LOVE this color) a morning glory I have growing on a trellis next to the porch. Gonna need a bigger trellis though...this thing is getting huge!

Thanks for stopping by! For more beautiful Outdoor Wednesday photos please visit A Southern Daydreamer.
